Established in 1948, the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences offers a variety of graduate and undergraduate programs. It offers various graduate programs, such as satellite meteorology, past climates and climatic change, environmental biophysics, atmospheric dispersion and air pollution, geophysical fluid dynamics, atmospheric chemistry and analysis of atmospheric systems. It also offers a variety of undergraduate programs that include global climate processes, radar and satellite meteorology, numerical techniques in weather prediction, mesoscale meteorology, and storm forecasting and observation. The department also pursues research in collaboration with various research groups, such as the Space Science and Engineering Center, the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies and the Center for Climate Research. It is a part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is located in Madison, Wis.
