Open for two decades now, North City Bistro has established an enviable reputation as a casual, neighborhood-friendly restaurant with an unusual twist: It's a first-rate wine shop as well. Co-owner Larry Schoonmaker, who's been studying this "art form" for more than 25 years, is one of the greater Seattle area's recognized wine experts. As a result, the shelves here are stocked with hundreds of bottles favoring outstanding Pacific Northwest and European vintners. They're available as complements for on-site dining and also for purchase to take home.
The bistro's Mediterranean-style cookery is distinguished by flavor and freshness. Among Chef Justine's signature dishes are lamb patties, crab cakes, Moroccan meatballs and savory soups. All sauces and dressings are made from scratch.
There's live jazz, too, on Wednesday and Friday evenings. The marquee features a line-up of local favorites as well as an occasional famous-name group.
Overall, its an appealing blend of drinkable, edible and audible entertainment.
