University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio serves the more than 50,000-square-mile area of south Texas. It extends to campuses in the metropolitan border communities of Laredo and the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. The university comprises the Dental School, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Medical School, School of Allied Health Sciences, School of Nursing, School of Public Health, and College of Pharmacy. The colleges offer a number of courses, such as community dentistry, orthodontics, biochemistry, pharmacology, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, occupational therapy, and clinical laboratory sciences. More than 2,700 students every year train in over 100 affiliated hospitals, clinics and health care facilities in south Texas.
