Central Elementary School, governed by the Pickens County School District, serves students in prekindergarten through grade five. Its curriculum includes language arts, English, science, math, social studies, health and physical education, computers, and performing and fine arts. It employs more than 30 teachers and over 30 support staff. Founded in 1980, the school is handicapped-accessible, air-conditioned, and has 25 permanent classrooms and more than four portable classrooms. The school operates a cafeteria, and has a media center, computer lab, gymnasium, health room area and a garden certified by the National Wildlife Federation as a schoolyard habitat. It has more than three playground areas and a track field. The school offers various after-school programs, service learning club, musical productions, library and art clubs, chorus and band, curriculum-related field trips, chess club, student council and a junior police academy. The school is located on a 20-acre campus in Central, S.C.
