Established as a summer program in 1980, South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities is an educational institution that offers classes in performing arts for more than 230 students. It enrolls students in grades 11 and 12, as well as students in grades 9 and 10 who are exceptionally gifted in dance and music. South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities students meet the English, language arts and mathematics proficiency requirements of the United States Department of Education. It offers classes in creative writing, drama, dance, music and visual arts. The school provides advanced placement courses, as well as national, local and private scholarships for eligible students. Additionally, its students participate and win various national, state and local competitions. South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities is located in Greenville, S.C.
