Guiding Eyes For Blind is an internationally accredited guide dog school. The nonprofit organization was founded in 1956 to provide the blind and visually impaired with the freedom to travel safely and independently.
There are two campuses, one at the Yorktown Heights headquarters and training site and the Patterson Canine Development Center.
Guiding Eyes has had more than 7,000 graduating guide dogs. It provides professional training and follow-up services. It costs approximately $45,000 to prepare students and dogs to become a Guiding Eyes team.
The organization receives no government funding and provides dogs, plus training and lifetime support, to its blind and visually impaired students at no cost to them. To fulfill its mission, Guiding Eyes depends on contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations.
