Painter Park was established in the Lyndale neighborhood in 1977, a block away from Kingfield. According to the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board's historical account by David C. Smith, it was named for Minneapolis' first Industrial Arts teacher, Jonathan Painter. The park includes fields for softball, tennis, basketball and soccer, as well as playgrounds and a small community center. Painter Park provides a quiet, sunny refuge from the bustle of adjacent Lyndale Avenue.
