Founded in 1856, the Michigan Dental Association encourages the improvement of the oral health of the public. The association is an official source for oral health care for the residents of Michigan. It offers community dental services and programs for adults and children. The Michigan Dental Association also serves disabled, handicapped, institutionalized and homebound individuals. The association has more than 6,300 members who practice throughout Michigan and are part of over 25 local dental societies. Its members include dental school students at the University of Michigan and the University of Detroit Mercy. The association provides financing options for patients and professionals. The Michigan Dental Association organizes educational seminars and scientific sessions for dental professionals. In addition, the association operates a full-service insurance agency.
