The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, also known as FDLE, works to promote public safety and strengthen domestic security. The department partners with local, state and federal criminal justice agencies. It offers crime prevention and investigation services. The department administers criminal justice information and professionalism programs, as well as the Florida Capitol Police. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement employs a staff of more than 1,900 people. The department has been in operation since 1967. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is accredited by the National Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation and American Society for Crime Lab Directors.
