Founded in 2007, Environment America is a federation of state-based, citizen-funded environmental advocacy organizations in more than 25 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. It works on a range of environmental issues, including promoting energy efficiency, protecting open spaces, cleaning up air and water, and stopping global warming and pollution. Environment America has led a campaign that convinced the governors of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont to sign the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative to cut global warming emissions from power plants by 10 percent. It is a part of US. PIRG, which is a federation of state Public Interest Research Groups.
