History
Yarn & Thread Expressions opened in in a tiny store front in Lemon Grove in late November 2007 after almost two months of renovations to the store space. That location was chosen because it had recently been occupied by a previous yarn store business called the Knitting Basket. Pat Carlson, a long time Lemon Grove resident and businesswoman ran it. The City of Lemon Grove decided they needed to rebuild their city center, and the building the shop occupied at the time was demolished as part of the rebuilding effort. That meant finding a new location, which ended up being where we are now in La Mesa. We moved in August 2011, with the help of wonderful friends and customers.
Specialties
In 2007, Carol Fuller left the tech industry. She unplugged her keyboard for the last time and picked up her beloved, familiar knitting needles. Then, with sidekick Squeeky the Maltipoo, she purchased a yarn boutique and set out to foster a community driven by creativity. At this store, Yarn & Thread Expressions, Carol and the rest of our team welcome crafters of all ages and skill levels to come together in our knitting classes and our weekly sit 'n' stitch events. Multicolored yarn and patterns aplenty line our walls, just waiting to be picked up and transformed into masterpieces. Knitting and crocheting have been sparking joy in Carol's life since she was a Girl Scout, and it's her mission to weave warmth into our community.
