Safe Routes to Schools, a program operated by the Marin County Bicycle Coalition, encourages reduction in traffic and pollution for enhancing the health of children and the community. It promotes walking and biking to school through educational awareness and incentives. The program addresses the safety concerns of parents by encouraging the enforcement of traffic laws. Safe Routes to Schools educates the public and explores ways to create safer streets. It also organizes classroom sessions that offer various safety lessons to students. The program trains individuals in the area of road safety. In addition, Safe Routes to Schools features several environmental lesson plans that include Family Mouse Behind the Wheel, Eco Travel Log, Greenhouse in a Bottle and Transportation Choices and the Environment for students. The program is spread throughout Canada and the United States.
