The Marin County Bicycle Coalition (MCBC) has been the premier cycling advocacy and education organization in Marin since its inception in 1998. MCBC has a number of branches, including advocacy for cyclists' safety at the state and national level, allocation of funds for bike pathways and bike boulevards under the Non-Motorized Transportation Pilot Project, education and outreach about traffic laws for cyclists and Safe Routes for School - which attempts to get more children biking and walking to school. With cycling as one of the most popular sports in Marin, the organization, whose headquarters are in Fairfax, has a large presence throughout the county. MCBC is a nonprofit and residents can volunteer at a number of events, including Bike to Work Day in May.
