Sacramento Children’s Museum (SCM) was incorporated as a non-profit corporation in 2005.It is the vision of a local mom, Kathleen Palley, who saw the need for inspiring learning through interactivity. SCM seeks to build an environment in which learning is exciting and enriching for children and their families and facilitated through exploration and hands-on activities. This group embarked on a journey to determine how to best meet the needs of the children in our community, birth to eight years of age, and the 7,000 square foot Sacramento Children's Museum is the result. The Museum opened to the public on August 25, 2011. SCM strongly believes that play is an essential part of a child’s “work.” Imaginative, hands-on environments provide children with a gateway for opening up their minds to developing new abilities, building confidence, and making connections between their dreams and real world experiences.
