Take a step back in time Hartman's Variety Store Established in 1911 by T.A. Hartman, the original building still stands behind the current store, which was built in 1922. T.A.'s son, Lawrence, took over the store in the 1940's from his father and then passed it on to his son, Jim, in 1983. Owners Jim and Judi Hartman now bring hometown history to life with hearty hello greetings and stick to your ribs cooking. In keeping with the saying of our founder T.A. Hartman if we don't have it, you don't need it Hartman's offers a complete line of basic groceries including over 70 produce items ( sorry, no fresh meats ) and everything from fabrics to greeting cards, socks to notions, gifts to school supplies we even have long johns and undies. We also have an extensive $ 1.00 department. Introduced in 1987, Hartman's Deli features fresh cut deli meats and cheeses, freshly made salads, homemade pizzas, a variety of sandwiches, and of course, our famous chicken. We provide excellent catering for everything from small family gatherings to large corporate functions. ( We were hired by the National Press Corps to provide food when President Bush visited Wausau in 2005 ). Our catering services now covers a 60 to 70 mile radius of Athens, including Wausau, Tomahawk, Marshfield, Medford and beyond. Hartman's, truly an Old Fashioned Variety Store, has stayed in business for 90-plus years by maintaining an inviting atmosphere with friendly and helpful service.
