Founded in 1972 in a small house on Greenfield Avenue in Milwaukee, La Causa has evolved into Wisconsin's largest bilingual, multicultural childcare agency. A comprehensive social services agency, La Causa's mission is to provide children, youth and families with quality, comprehensive services to nurture healthy family life and enhance community stability. The organization serves more than 9,000 individuals annually at nine Milwaukee sites through a broad range of childcare, education, prevention and child welfare programs. Some of the nonprofit organization's initiatives include a dual language Charter School, Wisconsin's first bilingual childcare center accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, Wisconsin's largest bilingual Family Resource Center and Wisconsin's first 24-hour Crisis Nursery. Programs are funded through service fees, government contracts/grants and philanthropic support.
