Established in 1967, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is a government agency that works towards conserving and enhancing natural resources in cooperation with individuals and organizations. It operates a forestry division that is responsible for developing and implementing programs to protect and manage the state's forest resources. The department additionally maintains a water division that gathers information to assess aquatic environmental health, evaluates ecological problems and determines the success of management actions to protect aquatic resources.
