Dodgeville is the most populous city and county seat of Iowa County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 4,220 at the 2000 census. In 2008 the population was estimated to be 4,975 making it the 9th largest city within the Madison metropolitan area. The city is currently estimated to be over 5,000 people, with an estimated 6,529 within the greater dodgeville area. It is part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area. Dodgeville is one of Wisconsin's oldest cities, and at a time was the largest city in Wisconsin, but the population however stopped growing and was passed by other growing cities. It still remains one of the oldest cities in Wisconsin. The city is twinned with Oakham, Rutland, located in Great Britain.
