The history of Bakers Square can be traced back to the 1970s when it was founded as Mrs. C s in Des Moines, Iowa. The restaurant was purchased by Pillsbury, which renamed it as Poppin' Fresh Pies and opened several additional outlets. Pillsbury operated the restaurant chain until 1983 when VICORP Restaurants purchased Poppin Fresh Pies and founded Bakers Square. The company currently operates more than 140 restaurants throughout the United States. Its menu includes a selection of breakfast items, soups, salads, appetizers, entrees and burgers. Its range of special sandwiches includes fajita pitas, chicken Caesar pitas and chicken Florentine parmaninis. The restaurant offers pasta, pizzas, beverages and desserts for children. Bakers Square also provides gift cards and certificates of various denominations. In addition, it offers catering services for special occasions, including birthdays and family reunions. Bakers Square also conducts a fundraising program, Sweet Returns, and maintains a location in Appleton, Wis.
