History
The Alpine Inn is a unique bar/restaurant located on top of Grandad Bluff. Mr. Milton Isler, the Alpine's owner for most if its time related that his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Isler moved to Potato Ridge in the early 1900's. They constructed a pavilion at the back of their house which was known as the Isler Wine Garden. During the war, the Wine Garden became a pop stand since wine could no longer be sold. On March 28, 1938, Milton Isler acquired a license to sell beer and in 1940, the license changed to also include liquor. Over the years the building has gone through many remodels. It remains a small, but important, landmark in La Crosse's history.
