The Village of Pewaukee, which was incorporated out of the town before it incorporated as a city, is surrounded by the city. However, even though the city surrounds the village, the village is said to surround Park Ave, the epicenter of the Pewaukee life.
The name of the city comes from "Pee-wauk-ee-wee-nick," meaning either "the dusty water" or "lake of shells" in Potawatomi.
Pewaukee is located at 43°3?41?N 88°14?58?W / 43.06139°N 88.24944°W / 43.06139; -88.24944 (43.061408, -88.249484). It is located in the Lake Country area of Waukesha County.
