Geographically speaking, WCHS is the second-largest TV market east of the Mississippi River. WCHS is the ABC affiliate for the Charleston-Huntington, W.Va., area. Founded in 1954, WCHS is no. 61 in the United States for population size. The station reaches more than 1.2 million viewers spanning in excess of 34 counties in three states. The Charleston-Huntington area is a very diversified market. It includes the coal fields of eastern Kentucky, the rolling farmland of southern Ohio and the mountainous timberland regions of central West Virginia.
