United Way of Central West Virginia is a volunteer-led, volunteer-driven organization representing Kanawha and Putnam counties in West Virginia. It raises funds to solve various community problems, such as homelessness and poverty. The organization operates the Regional Teen Institute, where more than 50 students in grades 7 and 8 participate in the week-long event with students in grades 9 through 12 serving as youth staff to develop leadership skills. United Way of Central West Virginia offers the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), which provides opportunities to people above 55 years to participate in neighborhood watch programs, tutor teens, mentor children, renovate homes, program computers, aide with bulk mailings and help people recover from natural disasters. It is located in Charleston, W.Va.
