Established in 1872, the Board of Childcare is a nonprofit organization that works to meet the physical, emotional, behavioral and social needs of children and families affected by poverty and developmental disabilities. The organization offers day and foster care and emergency services. The Board of Childcare serves more than 1,700 children and provides emergency shelter services to homeless people. It is accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Families and Children, National Commission for the Accreditation of Special Education Services, Educational Assessment Guidelines Leading Toward Excellence and National Center for Professional Certification. The organization is a member of the Alliance for Children and Families and the Child Welfare League of America. Additionally, it provides residential care services and maintains one of its locations in Martinsburg, W.Va.
