History
Neighbors told us the land had been judged good for grapes and the previous owner had planned on espaliered wine grapes supported on Granny Smith apple trees, but he never got the orchard established. We planted a test vineyard of 12 varieties, and from those we took cuttings of Sauvignon blanc and Rkatsiteli for white grapes -- the latter because it is relatively resistant to 2,4-D. For reds we selected Cab franc and Cab sauvignon and Syrah, based on their performance in the original plantings. We have since added Carmenere, Malbec and Petit verdot for Bordeaux blends. Our winery in Wawawai Canyon was constructed while Ben Moffett was being completed the Viticulture and Enology program at Walla Walla, and our business was registered 9n 2004. The grapes are grown within a long stone's throw from the place they are processed which means that they have the gentlest treatment to preserve the grape's quality for the creation of premier wines
