The Department of Social and Health Services, operated by the government of Washington, offers individual protection, food assistance, financial aid and medical care services to more than 2 million children, families and adults. Located in Sunnyside, Wash., the department also provides screening, prevention and investigation services against child abuse and neglect. In addition, it offers early intervention programs that include multidisciplinary evaluation and family resources coordination services. The Department of Social and Health Services operates state hospitals and treatment and residential habilitation centers.
