Shorecrest is one of two high schools in the Shoreline School District. About 1,429 students attend, making it a Class 3A school. Except for the school's theater, the building will undergo a complete reconstruction in the coming years, with an expected finish date in 2013. The school, nicknamed the "Scots" or the "Highlanders," maintains many Scottish traditions such bagpipe playing and the Highland Dancers, a traditional Scottish dance performance group. Shorecrest has a solid athletic program and its boys and girls soccer teams have won multiple state titles. Shorecrest's famous alumni include Rainn Wilson, star of The Office, soccer player Michelle Akers, star of the first U.S. women's national soccer team, major league baseball pitcher Glendon Rusch and Sanjaya Malakar of American Idol fame. Shorecrest is recently known for its video lip dub of Outkast's song "Hey Ya" that was filmed throughout the school.
