History
Sail Sand Point was incorporated on September 25 1998 in Washington State as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. Sail Sand Point is located at the North Shore Recreation Area, on the campus of Sand Point/Magnuson Park on the shores of Lake Washington in Seattle. Since its inception, SSP has created sailing and small boat programs for youth and adults from the greater Seattle area. These programs have brought in youth and adults of all ages to participate in summer camps, year round youth racing clinics, adult classes, open sailing opportunities, boat storage and a variety of partnership programs. We offer programs at a modest cost to encourage all members of the community to participate. SSP is focused particularly on youth and the development of lifelong skills of sailing and personal qualities of character, leadership and the awareness of environment.
Specialties
Sail Sand Point (SSP) is a nonprofit community boating center dedicated to youth and access for all. Our mission is to bring the joy and life-enhancing benefits of sailing and small boats to people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. We remove traditional barriers to sailing and paddling through instructional, outreach, racing, volunteer, and open boating programs. We accomplish our mission by nurturing self confidence, leadership, and an appreciation of our marine environment. Our Open Boating program provides affordable access to sailing, kayaking, and stand up paddleboarding on Lake Washington. Half and full scholarships are available for all youth and adult classes. SSP also provides one day activities that are great for Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCAs, scout troops and other community organizations.
