Ponders Pawnbrokers has been a landmark in Ponders Corner since 1961. They offer quick, easy loans on cameras, televisions, firearms, tools, musical instruments, jewelry and many other valuables. Bargain hunters can find many good deals on out-of-pawn goods, especially guitars, large-screen LCD television sets, and heavy tools like drills and power saws.
Harry Cupper, the counterman, says he's seen a few changes since 1973, when the current owner, Mike Movehart, bought the shop. "We don't get so many servicemen, now that the military is paying better," he said. "These days we actually have more civilian customers." Pawnshops are a better deal than payday loan companies, he says, because the interest is lower and you can renegotiate your loan after 90 days.
