The Idaho Department of Fish and Game was established in 1899 by the Fifth State Legislature of the State of Idaho. The department works towards the preservation, protection and management of wildlife, including animals, birds and fish. Its areas of responsibilities include establishment and enforcement of rules and regulations governing fishing, hunting, trapping and acquisition of wildlife management areas. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game issues licenses, tags and permits. The department conducts educational programs for hunters that include classes on hunting equipment and ethics, recovery techniques, distance judging, survival, regulations and a field exercise. It also publishes Wildlife Express, a monthly newspaper for elementary and middle school students. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game undertakes special surveys and research programs for the preservation and management of endangered species.
