Orcas Power & Light Cooperative (OPALCO) has been energizing island life in San Juan County since 1937. Founded by a group of 12 Orcas men, OPALCO now serves 20 islands with a reliability rate of greater than 99%.
Owned and operated by the islanders it serves, OPALCO continues to provide power to the community at an affordable membership cost of five dollars. The cooperative has a rich history of innovation, from electrifying its fleet with electric vehicles to providing broadband services through its subsidiary, Rock Island Communications.
