History
OmCulture was started by Michael Suzzeris in 2000 with the intention of creating a community-based center for healing and the exploration of yogic practices. He recognized the amazing potential of yoga as a path for healing after experiencing a life-altering spinal injury in 1978. Omculture has grown out of the passion for yoga as a way of life, a 'culture' if you will. We maintain our dedication to building community and making yoga accessible by maintaining the lowest prices for yoga in the city of Seattle, with some of the most highly qualified yoga teachers, co-creating with the community one of the warmest and most welcoming studios in the city.
Specialties
At Omculture (formerly Yogalife), we are committed to your yogic practice- building community through the holistic approach of body, breath, and balance. When you are embodied you are focusing on what you are capable of and where you would like to grow. Breath brings you into presence and awareness of your mental and emotional state. Balance is your ability to create balance in your life on and off the mat, which is why we have committed to keeping yoga prices at $10 a class (with a 20 class pass) as well as providing a community around yogic practice including book clubs, kirtans, sound healings, a tea lounge, dance, and more. More than just a physical practice, yoga is a way of life. It is an ancient discipline that promotes healing, growth and transformation. The teachers at Omculture strive to share the yogic tradition with people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. We are not a hot yoga studio- we provide room temperature classes- including Hatha, Vinyasa, and Yin Classes at our Greenlake location, as well as Soundbaths, Kirtans, and Salsa. We have a variety of dances and partner movement at our Wallingford location including Ecstatic, Tango, Mixed Partner Dancing, AcroYoga, and Aerial Silks. We also have morning play-gym for toddlers at our OmTots program, and Afterschool Circus Arts for school-aged children. Our Greenlake studio also provides sustainably produced yoga mats, props, local art, and books for purchase.
