Northwest Institute for Non-Profit Excellence, located in Bellingham, Wash., provides educational programs, and self-sufficiency development services for children and the youth. It is a joint venture between Northwest Youth Services and the Opportunity Council. The institute provides counseling services, foster care and other community-based services for addressing the short- and long-term developmental needs of children and the youth. It also provides financial assistance and resources to families living below the poverty line. Northwest Institute serves social service organizations and corporate volunteers through training, continuing education and professional programs. Additionally, it offers technical assistance and consultation services for the development of advanced curricula and instruction programs according to the needs of various organizations. It also offers parent support groups, 24-hour emergency services, shelter and medication for homeless youth and teenagers. Its transitional living program provides case management, independent living skills development and independent living options to young people of 16 to 21 years of age. It is a nonprofit organization and was established in 1976.
