Washington State Department of Labor and Industries provides medical and wage-replacement coverage plans to workers who suffer job-related injuries and illnesses. It operates the Division of Occupational Safety and Health, which administers the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act law by developing and enforcing rules that protect workers from hazardous job conditions. The department inspects more than 6,000 workplaces each year and cites businesses that violate health and safety rules. It also conducts over 2,000 on-site safety and health consultations that focus on the promotion of work environment. Washington State Department of Labor and Industries administers various apprenticeship programs. It additionally protects the public by inspecting electrical work, boilers and elevators. The department employs a workforce of more than 2,500 people and serves clients with over 15 offices in Washington.
