Fort Steilacoom Park offers a little for everyone. From mountain biking to softball. One can do just about any activity here. The hills bordering the south side of this park give hikers and mountain bikers some challenging terrain. The new state-of-the-art playground and off-leash dog park are considered by the locals "amazing" and "well worth the trip". Fort Steilacoom Park features baseball, soccer and softball fields as well as many picnic shelters. The park even has a small lake with a paved walking path encircling its shoreline.
Besides having a diverse mix of active and passive recreation, Fort Steilacoom Park is Lakewood's premier park and offers many different year-round activities and events. These events vary from the Truck & Trailer Fun-Run to Civil War reenactment's. To check out what is happening, visit the park's website.
This park not only offers great sports fields, a dog park and a state-of-the-art playground for kids, it also now has a program that describes the history of the park. It can be found on Discovery Trail that loops around Lake Waughop on the Southwestern corner of the park. Just follow the main road and park past the barns in the unpaved parking lot area. Restrooms and Port-a-Potties are open year-round. A new bathroom next to the playground is in the plans, too.
