History
FamilyWorks is a private, non-profit organization, which runs a food bank and a family resource center. Originally an initiative of the Fremont Public Association (now known as Solid Ground), FamilyWorks began as the North Central Family Resource Center a separate non-profit organization with its own Board of Directors. In 1997, the first staff member, Jake Weber, was hired as Executive Director, and in 1998 FamilyWorks took over operation of the Fremont Food Bank. In June of 1998, FamilyWorks moved from Fremont to its current location at 1501 N. 45th St. in Wallingford. FamilyWorks remains a tenant in the Solid Ground building and retains a strong, working partnership with Solid Ground to serve our participants as well as contracting with Solid Ground for financial services. FamilyWorks has since expanded food distribution, added home delivery, implemented a weekend school nutrition program, and created programs that support individuals, families, and teen parents.
