Dr. Davenport was born and raised in Tidewater Virginia and was educated in the Chesapeake public schools, graduating from Western Branch High School in 1969. He attended the College of William and Mary and graduated in 1973 with a degree in economics and received his undergraduate dental education at the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University from 1973 to 1977. He graduated with high honors and was inducted into the honorary society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon. Following dental school, he entered the United States Air Force where he furthered his education through the general practice residency at Eglin Air Force Base. After four years practicing general dentistry, he began his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at David Grant Medical Center, Travis AFB, California. His surgical training was completed in 1984 and he became board certified in oral and maxillofacial surgery in 1986. Following military assignments to Florida and Wiesbaden Germany, he was transferred to Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas where he served as Director of Residency Training and Chairman of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Additionally, he was the Chief Consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General for oral and maxillofacial surgery. He retired with the rank of colonel having nearly 23 years of active duty service.
