The Lewis F. Powell Jr. United States Courthouse, also known as the U.S. Post Office and Customhouse, is a historic building located in Richmond, Virginia. Originally constructed in 1858, it served as a courthouse for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
This impressive example of Italianate architecture survived the devastating 1865 fire in Richmond and has undergone several expansions over the years. Renamed in 1993 in honor of Supreme Court Justice Lewis F. Powell Jr., the courthouse continues to house the Fourth Circuit and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
