This synagogue offers services in the tradition of Reform Judaism and is affiliated with the national Union for Reform Judaism. According to the temple's web site ( tbs-online.org ), this community grew out of a congregation comprised of three families in 1986; now the congregation is several hundred strong. The current meeting-house opened in 1995.
Temple B'nai Shalom is led by Rabbi Amy R. Perlin, and has been since 1986. According to tbs-online.org, "she graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Princeton University. ... Perlin teaches children and adults and is famous for her sermons."
The large Shalom edifice includes the sanctuary, a social hall and classrooms for religious school.
According to tbs-online.org, Temple B'nai Shalom is "dedicated to creating and maintaining a sense of community and to providing a variety of Jewish spiritual, social, and educational experiences for children and adults. We emphasize social action, outreach, helping the needy, and Tikkun Olam, making the world a better place for everyone and Torah study for adults as well as children. Our congregation welcomes children and adults from a variety of backgrounds. Young and old, single, partnered, married, divorced, and people with special needs have found a home with us. Our Temple is a house of worship for all people, including Jewish members and others who share with their families a commitment to Reform Judaism."
The synagogue hosts a wide array of spiritual and social activities in addition to regular worship services
The temple is located near the entrance to Burke Lake Park, and is just off of Ox Road (Route 123).
