Founded in 1728, Norfolk Academy is a coeducational day school serving students in grades one to 12. The academic programs of the school includes independent study, foreign exchange and formal speech programs, interdisciplinary studies, summer school and advanced course work. Community service is part of the curriculum in the lower and middle schools. It offers college preparatory courses in various subjects, including English, mathematics, history, fine arts, physical education science and languages. Norfolk Academy also fosters several competitive sports and activity programs. It has arts and theater centers. The school has libraries that include the Cooper Library that serves students in grades one to six, and the Batten Library serves students in grades seven to 12. Its libraries offer print and digital collections to students. Located in Norfolk, Va., the school is approved by the Virginia State Board of Education, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and Virginia Association of Independent Schools.
