The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation works to educate and promote the understanding and awareness of Virginia's role in the creation of the United States. It is an educational institution and administers living-history museums, including the Yorktown Victory Center and Jamestown Settlement. The foundation is accredited by the American Association of Museums. The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation maintains development, administration, museum operations & education, and marketing and retail operations divisions. The foundation works with a team of more than 550 full- and part-time staff members. It administers several programs that serve over 429,040 students through hands-on sessions and guided tours. The Jamestown-Yorktown is an agency of the Commonweath of Virginia.
