Herndon Friends Meeting began as a Quaker worship group meeting in different locations around Reston and Herndon in the 1970s. They became a worship group in 1979 and eventually purchased its location in the old Herndon Fortnightly Library in 1995. Singing and worship services are held weekly along with children's and Little Friends meetings. A potluck is held after worship services the first Sunday of each month, and on the second Sunday members address orders of business while children make lunches for the Embry Rucker Community Shelter. The church is part of the Religious Society of Friends.
