Eastern Virginia Medical School operates under charter from the Commonwealth of Virginia as a public organization to promote health care services in southeastern Virginia. It operates through a range of departments, such as administration, basic science, clinical, education, information technology, patient care, research administration and support services. Eastern Virginia Medical School's clinical department features general, cardiothoracic, pediatric and oncology units, as well as critical care, transplantation and neurosurgery sections. The school's main campus includes Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, which is a tertiary care center. Eastern Virginia Medical School also operates the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, which is a full-service acute care facility that serves as a regional referral center for pediatrics.
