Douthat State Park, founded in 1936, is managed by Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. Its overnight facilities include cabins, camps and lodges with amenities, such as kitchen with refrigerator, stove, coffeemaker, dishes, dish towels, silverware and cooking utensils, and beds, fireplaces, heat pumps, air conditioning, grills and picnic tables. Its facilities also include an amphitheater, picnic shelters, restaurants, snack bar, grocery store, laundry room, and handicapped accessible bedrooms and restrooms. The park offers more than 50-acres of lake area for seasonal trout fishing, swimming and boating for children and adults. Its other recreational programs include hunting, horse riding, hiking, bicycle trailing, picnicking and car shows. It also provides environmental education center for in-house education and outreach programs for scouts, civic organizations, church groups and senior groups.
