Manassas Park is one of the many vibrant cities of Northern Virginia and is affectionately called "the park" by a large portion of its 13,000 residents. At 2.5 square miles, Manassas Park is a densely populated city with many of its residents commuting to Washington D.C. or other Northern Virgina suburbs for work each day. Dubbed "the newest city in Virginia," Manassas Park was established in 1975 and was the last city formed before a state moratorium ended the incorporation of any other cities in Virgina. The Park boasts its own school system - which has been the subject of a book - and has recently been targeted by residential community developers who aim to grow the area, even on the heels of an economic slowdown.
