Public Service is a division of Public Works, which is a department governed by the City of Charlottesville in Virginia. The division is responsible for the maintenance of streets and sidewalks, as well as addresses various issues related to stormwater infrastructure, such as potholes and drainage systems. Public Service handles problems concerning traffic signs, meters, signals and street markings. The division schedules the daily collection of garbage, recyclables and solid waste materials in several areas of the city. In addition, Public Service deals with issues related to dead animals. Public Works operates a facilities maintenance division that manages and repairs various buildings in the city.
