Founded in 1931, the Air Line Pilots Association, International is one of the largest airline pilot unions in the world. It represents more than 54,000 pilots in the United States and Canada. The association is a member of the International Federation of Air Line Pilot Associations. The Air Line Pilots Association, International participates in safety improvement services and serves the needs of clients in the airline industry. The association, through its pilots union, offers grievances and contract enforcement, strike support, and economic and financial analysis services. It is chartered by the AFL-CIO and the Canadian Labour Congress. In addition, the Air Line Pilots Association, International operates an ALPA Emergency Relief Fund.
