History
The Mountain Times is, and has always been, a family-owned independent newspaper located on Route 4. Founded in 1971 by Ed Pickett as The Killington-Pico Paper, the publication had its original office on Route 4 in Mendon. After a few years, Pickett sold the paper to Andrew Neisner, who moved the offices east to Route 4 in Killington, across from the Post Office. Neisner then sold it to Fred and Olga Straka, who moved the offices a block to the east. In 1986 Royal and Zip Barnard bought The Mountain Times and eventually built new offices just a bit further east on the
