Abigail Ryan, PhD is a neuropsychologist at the University of Vermont Medical Center, specializing in cognitive evaluations of adults. Dr. Ryan is a generalist and evaluates cognitive concerns secondary to a wide range of medical and psychiatric conditions, including dementia, stroke, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, movement disorders, neuro-developmental disorders and schizophrenia. Her areas of interest include dementia and neurodevelopmental disorders in adults, such as autism and genetic disorders. Dr. Ryan loves her work because she gets to spend time getting to know her patients, their families and their concerns. She finds that most families are grateful for the chance to express themselves and get answers to their questions, which makes her work very rewarding and motivates her to do her best. She also likes the fact that the field of neuropsychology is always changing and evolving, challenging her to stay up-to-date on research and clinical best practices. Neuropsychological evaluations are unique because psychologists get to spend more time with patients and their families than some other providers. Dr. Ryan’s goal is to use this time to help patients, their families and their care team better understand the patient's cognitive functioning and how to help them function as independently as possible.
