History
The Memorial House is operated by Utah Heritage Foundation, a statewide organization dedicated to preserving, protecting and promoting Utah's historic architecture. Money raised from the rental of Memorial House directly supports Utah Heritage Foundation's mission. Originally built in 1890, the building was used as a storage shed and barn. Salt Lake City bought the property from the original owner in 1902. The building was converted into the event center in 1926 by the Gold Star Mothers who had lost sons at war - they were also instrumental in turning the area into a memory park to honor people in the military. Memorial House has operated as an event center since this time. The building went vacant in the early 80's through the mid 90's. At that time, the Utah Heritage Foundation raised money in conjunction with the city to restore the building. It reopened in 1994 and is known as one of Salt Lake's unique venues for weddings, parties, and social gatherings.
